Delivery service Airasia Food to take off in Indonesia this year and compete with the big players
February 09, 2022
Indonesia will have another big player in its saturated food delivery service market, coming from none other than Malaysia’s Capital A — formerly known as AirAsia Group.

Airasia Food is slated to arrive this year in the archipelago, going up against food delivery giants such as GoFood, Grabfood, and some newer players such as ShopeeFood. Since it was launched in May 2020, Airasia Food has partnered with thousands of F&B businesses in several Malaysian cities and other Southeast Asian countries including Thailand and Singapore.

Arbi Wienandar, Airasia Super App Indonesia’s head of e-commerce, said that Airasia Food has received “overwhelmingly positive response” from local culinary businesses since the service’s upcoming arrival was first announced last December.

“We are very proud that thousands of culinary businesses have registered and entrusted their businesses to Airasia Food, we are committed to presenting a partnership experience that can encourage and maximize their business profits.” Arbi said in a statement today.

Brands that have joined Airasia Food include Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks, Kopi Soe, Haus, D’Crepes, and Mujigae, among others. Arbi also encouraged other F&B businesses to join the platform and take advantage of the momentum of Airasia Food’s launch as part of their product promotion.

“Along with the plan to launch Airasia Food in Indonesia in the near future, we will work together with a number of selected merchant partners to present a variety of unique programs and attractive promos as our gratitude for the enthusiasm of Indonesian people who have been waiting for the arrival of AirasiaFood,” Arbi said.

The AirAsia Food launch date in Indonesia has yet to be announced.

AirAsia Group renamed itself Capital A in late January, in a move that signifies the expansion of its core business from just a low-cost carrier to one that caters to a variety of lifestyle and transportation needs. Capital A’s AirAsia Super App contains dozens of services, such as AirAsia Money for financial products and services, as well as its ride-hailing arm AirAsia Ride, among others.

Additionally, Capital A had also acquired Malaysia’s food delivery app Delivereat in August of last year.
